July 18, 2009 Storm
Video from the bad July 18, 2009 thunderstorm. The winds were the worst I've seen them since probably 1987. Not sure who clear this is, but it may give you an indication of the start of the first storm. There was so much water running into the streets. As soon as you opened the front door, the door felt like it was going to be blown off and a wave of water hit you!

Wow!! That's impressive! I think BC could use some of that rain to help our fire fighters!
For perspective, when it got really gusty you got a brief glimpse of what a strong tropical storm is like. Luckily for you it didn't last as long as a tropical storm :-) A sustained wind of 63-118 kph is the range for a tropical storm, and 119 kph is the start of a Category 1 hurricane. (Although I should say that in my tropical storm/low-intensity hurricane experience, the intensity will change as the storm goes through, so you'll have moments of not-so-bad when the wind and weather are calmer and moments of what you had.)
